The John & Kathryn Zimmerman Center for Heritage

at Historic Pleasant Garden

As the organization responsible for the preservation and promotion of the Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area, the location of our headquarters couldn't be more appropriate. The bluestone mansion known today as "Pleasant Garden" sits perched on a hill overlooking the majestic Susquehanna River in Long Level, York County - right in the heart of the region.

Lovingly restored and renovated by John and Kathryn Zimmerman, this Colonial-era masterpiece, also known as the Dritt Mansion, dates back to the mid -1700's. During its renovation, an archaeological dig was conducted which unearthed literally thousands of artifacts that have helped fill in some of the blanks of this wonderful building's history.

In the Spring of 2007, the Zimmermans graciously donated this historic property to our organization and was dedicated as the John & Kathryn Zimmerman Center for Heritage at Historic Pleasant Garden.  Each day our staff is reminded of how wonderfully rewarding our mission to preserve and promote the Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area is.just by coming to work.

The Zimmerman Center is pleased to feature the Visions of the Susquehanna River Art Collection, the first-ever permanent exhibit of Susquehanna River Art in our region. The public is welcome to visit on the First Friday of each month from 10am-4pm, during advertised special events, and by special appointments.

Additionally, visitors are invited to use the Pleasant Garden Trail, accessible from the rear of the parking lot, to connect to the Native Lands County Park, the Native Lands Heritage Trail, and the Mason-Dixon Trail.
